Efacec received orders from EDP, valued at around 2 million euros

Efacec received from EDP – Energias de Portugal, important orders valued at around 2 million euros, for the supply and assembly of substation automation systems for several distribution substations.

From the wide range of supplies and interventions, we can highlight the supply of new substation automation systems based on CLP 500SCC, as well as expansion or renewal of existing systems, also supplied by Efacec, in which TPU 420 family or third party digital protections were installed.

The Efacec solutions are based on distributed architectures, supported by the CLP 500SCC automation platform, integrating intercommunicating digital protections. The architectures proposed by Efacec allow lower costs of installation, testing and maintenance, which make our solutions more attractive from both technical and investment point of view.

This set of projects is recognized as a sign of trust, by EDP relatively to Efacec, based on its experience, high competitiveness and high quality of its developed solutions within the scope of substation automation systems.

Efacec receives an order valued at 7.5 million euros from REN

During the third quarter of 2008, the Efacec’s Automation Unit received an important order from REN valued at around 7.5 million euros for the supply of equipments and services necessary to remodel the Recarei Substation (400/220/60 kV), as well as to carry out two new substations: Armamar (400/220/60 kV) and Valpaços (220/60 kV).

An internal view from a REN’s substation

The scope of supply, of turn-key type, comprises three substation automation systems, based on the CLP 500SCC platform, integrating protection units. These systems are based on technology fully developed by Efacec.

The Recarei substation is integrated into REN’s transmission network, in the North of Portugal, in the district of Oporto, with a triple bus-bar topology at the 400 kV and 220 kV levels, and a double bus-bar at the 60 kV level. The scope of supply for this substation shall include:
- 5 Line bays of 400 kV
- 1 Bus-coupler/bypass bay of 400 kV
- 2 Autotransformer bays of 400/220 kV
- 10 Line bays of 220 kV
- 1 Bus-coupler/bypass bay of 220 kV
- 2 Transformer bays of 220/60 kV
- 3 Line bays of 60 kV
- 1 Bus-coupler bay of 60 kV

The Armamar substation is integrated into REN’s transmission network, also in the North of Portugal, in the Douro sub-region, with a double bus-bar topology at the 400 kV and 220 kV levels, and a single bus-bar at the 60 kV level. The scope of supply for this substation shall include:
- 3 Line bays of 400 kV
- 1 Autotransformer bay of 400/220 kV
- 7 Line bays of 220 kV
- 1 Bus-coupler/bypass bay of 220 kV

The Valpaços substation is integrated into REN’s transmission network, also in the North of Portugal, in the Trás-os-Montes sub-region, with a double bus-bar topology at the 220 kV and 60 kV levels. The scope of supply for this substation shall include:
- 2 Line bays of 220 kV
- 1 Bus-coupler/bypass bay of 220 kV
- 2 Transformer bays of 220/60 kV
- 2 Line bays of 60 kV
- 1 Bus-coupler bay of 60 kV

The presented solution is characterised by its:
-
flexible architecture, allowing an easy adaptation to the each substation specific features, as well as to the Client’s specifications;
-
modular architecture with distributed processing, allowing thus a phased commissioning, as well as, perform future expansions to the system without any impact on the online operation;
-
open system concept, based on market standards (hardware, software, databases, communications), allowing an efficient interconnection to devices and systems from third parties.

All these systems are functionally compatible with the solutions already implemented by Efacec in previous REN’s projects. However, the proposed architecture capacities allow the implementation of new functionalities, which might be considered in the future by REN.
