»» The Portuguese Automation Unit of Efacec and ACS announce a new IED for Distribution Automation

The Portuguese Automation Unit of Efacec, together with Advanced Control Systems (ACS), an Efacec Group North American automation company, proudly announces our first joint product release: the D 060, developed within the scope of a common development strategy. This advanced analog input module is designed to meet the most demanding requirements of Distribution Automation systems.

ACS was acquired by the Efacec Group and integrated into the Automation Unit in October 2007. Leveraging the combined expertise and advanced technology from both engineering groups, we have developed an outstanding product that will serve the worldwide Distribution Automation market. The D 060 is the first of what we expect to be many joint development projects.

D 060 features

The D 060 is an intelligent analogue input module based on Digital Signal Processor (DSP) technology. Designed for use with other modules and Remote Terminal Units (RTU) it incorporates additional features targeted for distribution automation. These features include:
- Measurement (voltage and current values and angles, calculation of the active and reactive power, as well as the power factor and
  frequency)
- Fault detection (phase–to–phase and phase–to–ground, with fault direction)

The D 060 allows two sets of phase voltage and current to be read simultaneously, making it suitable for the implementation of measurement and fault detection features for two distinct three–phase segments of the distribution network. It is available in a stainless steel enclosure with LED indicators, or can be provided without the enclosure for DIN–rail mounting within an equipment cabinet.

First Industrial Application

The first D 060 units have already been sold to Jordanian Electric Power Company (JEPCO). ACS negotiated an automation system contract with JEPCO for USD 1.8 million, which includes approximately 550 D 060 devices, integrated with ACS NTX-10 controllers. ACS has been involved in the Middle East market since 2000, and has already installed 65 substation systems and 25 NTX-10/AIM switch automation systems, as well as a PRISM SCADA/DMS system at JEPCO’s power network control centre in Amman.
