Start of the 500 SmartGate installation, in the scope of the InovGrid Project

EDP started the installation of the first set of SmartGate devices supplied by Efacec, in the scope of the InovGrid Project.

It is expected that a total of 500 devices will be installed until the end of the year. Their main function is controlling MV/LV Transformer Stations, as well as gathering meter data arising from 50.000 smart meters, the Energy Boxes, with an average of 100 per SmartGate, according to the present project specification.

With the beginning of the SmartGate devices installation, a new phase starts, corresponding to the industrial application of the solutions developed by the InovGrid project partners, where Efacec performs an important role, not only at the level of MV/LV Transformer Station automation and management of communications and services with the new smart meters, but also at the level of SCADA/DMS solutions, in the scope of the Distribution Electric Power Network management.

Entroncamento Substation, REFER, Portugal

During the second quarter of 2009, the Automation business unit, jointly with the Transports unit, concluded the works regarding REFER’s Entroncamento substation remodelling.

REFER generates the Portuguese railways infrastructure, mainly the power traction (catenary and substations).

The Efacec scope of furniture enhanced the furniture and installation of systems based on the CLP 500 platform. The supplied systems architecture includes redundant central units, with particularity to integrate third party digital protections, which communicate with the central units through the IEC 61850 and DNP 3.0 communication protocols.

The solutions proposed by Efacec allow lower costs of installation, tests and maintenance, which makes them more attractive, from the economical and technical point of view. Its high modularity and availability will assure their future implementation in high speed networks.

This Project conclusion is a proof of the Efacec efficiency within the implementation of such important projects, showing REFER recognition and trust in Efacec solutions.

Lavos Substation, REN, Portugal

During the second quarter of 2009, the Automation business unit of Efacec concluded the works regarding the Lavos substation.

REN is a National Electricity Transmission Grid company operating in Portugal, responsible for management and the respective planning, construction, operation and maintenance, beyond the global technical management of the National Electric System.

The Lavos substation is composed by two voltage levels: 400 kV with bays of one circuit breaker and a half and 60kV with standard configuration. One art of the substations was redesigned by integration of new bays.

The scope of our supply includes one substation automation system based on the CLP 500SCC platform, integrating third party protections.

The installed solution is distinguished by its technological component, defined according to REN specification that demanded a highly technical complexity system. All systems are functionally compatible with the solutions already implemented by Efacec in previous REN projects.
