SONELGAZ Substations, Algeria

Efacec Automation has received a very important order from Algerian company of electric power generation, transmission and distribution, for the supply of substation automation systems (SAS) for four substations, through Efacec Engenharia, the main contractor. The SAS will be installed at the following substations: Biskra (400/220 kV), Biskra II (220/60 kV), El Attaf (60/30 kV) and Ain Temouchent (60/30 kV).

The scope of supply comprises SAS systems based on the CLP 500SAS platform, integrating protection systems from Efacec (TPU 420 family), ABB and Siemens. At each substation, the communications between station server units and digital protection relays will be carried out according to the IEC 61850 standard. The communications with the upstream hierarchical canters (SCADA) will be carried out through the IEC 60870-5-101 protocol.

The proposed solution will also integrate additional systems, namely a centralized energy metering system for each substation, and a centralized disturbance recording system, both from third party vendors.

The CLP 500SAS platform combines the unified Efacec relay, controller and HMI platform with IEC 61850 and IEC 61131-3 open systems integration from communications and scheme programming to engineering and management. With this platform customers benefit in full confidence from the power and flexibility of advanced substation automation, protection and control together with straightforward engineering and management throughout the system lifecycle.

Light Railway System, Singapore

Efacec Automation has received an order from Singapore LTA (The Land Transport Authority) for the hardware and software upgrade of a set of RTUs installed in the traction substations and along the light railway lines.

The Singapore railway network is composed by two types of systems, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), connecting different parts of the country and providing its customers safe and comfortable public transport. Two lines of the LRT system are managed by the Railway Electrification and Infrastructure Management Systems from Efacec Automation. Those lines are the Punggol, covering Punggol 21 New Town, and the Sengkang covering Sengkang New Town.

The following upgrade, motivated by the obsolescence in the communication technology, aims to improve reliability and performance of communication between station server units and acquisition units. This goal will be achieved by replacing existing RTUs with new RTUs based on UC 500E, using a TCP/IP communications technology, namely the IEC 60870-5-104 international protocol. The UC 500E server family provides an all-in-one flexible communication gateway, automation platform and SCADA/HMI solution for utility and industrial applications.
