»» Commissioning of EDP's Praça da Figueira substation, Portugal

During the first quarter, EFACEC completed the works related to the installation of a substation automation system for the distribution underground substation of Praça da Figueira (60/10 kV), of EDP (Energias de Portugal) at the center of Lisbon.

The supplied system is based on a distributed architecture, supported by the CLP 500SCC substation automation platform, composed mainly by the following hierarchical levels:
- Central Unit – central processing module, which function, among others, is the system
  data base management.
- Bay management units – integrating protection, acquisition and automation functions,
distributed human machine interface and local network communications.

In this supply it was used the following EFACEC devices that are components of the CLP 500SCC:
- UC 500E Central Unit,
- Terminal and Protection Units of the TPU 420 range (TPU S420, TPU TC420 and
  TPU TD420),
- UA 500 Acquisition Units.

The automation and protection units of EFACEC communicate with the Central Unit trough the IEC 60870-5-104 protocol, by a fibre optic Ethernet network. The Central Unit communicates with the Dispatch trough the IEC 60870-5-101 protocol, by a serial port. This unit also assures automation functions.

On the Central Unit cabinet there is a local control station that assures the human machine interface of the system.

With this system coming into service, EFACEC reassures its leading position in Portugal, in the supply of complex automation systems for distribution substations.
